The following are EFFIS modules under development
Post-fire vegetation regeneration. The module will assess the vegetation recovery in areas affected by large fires. The scope of this module is the use of satellite imagery before the fire and the comparison of it to the time series of images acquired over the same area after the forest fires. Previous studies carried out at the JRC show the potential of this methodology for the assessment of vegetation regeneration for large fires.
Post-fire soil erosion risk. Areas that have been affected by forest fires become more susceptible to additional damages such as erosion and soil loss, even landslides after heavy rains in the autumn. The proposed methodology will assess the potential soil loss in areas affected by fires and will identify those areas were critical prevention measures should be apply after the fire season to avoid further damage.
